Species Notes:
Also known as variegated elephant bush, Portulacaria afra ‘Variegata’ is a shrubby succulent native to South Africa. It stores water in its trunk and leaves, making it forgiving to missed waterings and well-suited to indoor environments. Responds well to pruning and wiring when the stems have lignified. Should be kept warm—below ~50°F can cause damage. Best growth occurs with strong light and good airflow. Can be grown outdoors during summer but must be brought inside well before first frost.
