Primo Arborvitae
‘Primo’ Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis ‘Primo’)
‘Primo’ is a dwarf, compact cultivar of Eastern Arborvitae developed by Iseli Nursery, selected for its extremely tight foliage, slow growth, and naturally dense form. With minimal maintenance, it stays neat and tidy, making it a strong candidate for small landscape spaces, containers, or bonsai development for those who like working with conifers.
As a Bonsai:
Though arborvitae aren't widely used in bonsai, ‘Primo’ is more suitable than most thanks to its fine texture and slow, compact growth. It can be shaped over time into formal or informal upright styles. Great for mame or shohin style bonsai where extremely compact habit is desired.
📢 This is a cold-hardy species—it requires a winter dormancy and should be kept outside year-round. In locations with extreme cold, we recommend placing it on the ground, mulching around the pot, and protecting it from wind.
